Ages & Stages
Play is the method of learning practiced in my home. I strive to use appropriate activities for every age group that also targets the needs of each individual child. Children develop at different rates, but generally go through the same stages. Whether it be outdoor activities or indoor, I will use play to incorporate the principles of the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. The 5 developmental domains are Health and Physical, Cognition and General Knowledge, Social and Emotional, Language Development and Communication, and Approaches to Learning.
Infants - I encourage muscle development, sensory exploration, stimulate language development, and build on the infants curiosity and drive to understand the world.
Toddlers - I assist in the development of small and large motor skills, help with the understanding of cause and effect, stimulate language development, practice colors, shapes, and textures.
Preschool - I encourage large muscle development through the use of play. I use descriptive words to encourage and build on language development. We currently are working with ASL as well as Spanish and English. I also encourage dramatic play, sorting, puzzles, and artistic play.
School Age - Before/After School Children are encouraged to play. There are games, puzzles, Legos, Wii, art projects, and outdoor activities. Homework completion time is available upon request of the parents. I also accept school age children during in-service days, breaks (summer, winter, and spring), or inclement weather closings.

Activities
We spend quite a bit of time outdoors.
Our indoor activities encourage creativity and generally involve art projects, puzzles, making block structures, literacy, and pretend play. In addition, I teach the children developmentally appropriate manners, practice colors, ABC's, and numbers.
- During the winter - if the weather is appropriate and there is adequate snow - we spend quite a bit of time outside sledding, making snow angels, building snowmen, constructing igloos, etc. We also will take educational field trips from time to time.
- During the summer - we take weekly field trips. On nice days, we go to the local pool. On inclement weather days we do other activities such as pottery painting, museums, and movie theater outings. School aged children participate in an academic challenge throughout the summer where everyone has an opportunity to earn prizes. This helps the children not to lose any academic knowledge gained during the school year.
- During other times of the year - we take a lot of walks, play outside, go to local parks, and learn about nature.
